Here’s a comprehensive home maintenance checklist that can help you stay on top of things as the spring season begins to wind down and the summer season is just around the corner!

Monthly Home Maintenance and Repairs 

According to American Home Shield, there are many maintenance chores and home repairs that need to be done about every month. Staying on top of the following will help your house run smoothly, look nice and save you money in the long run:

  • Replenish salt in the water softener (as needed)
  • Snake all house drains to unclog (sink, tub, etc.)
  • Test fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and replace batteries as needed
  • Check indoor/outdoor air vents and clean them of blockages/debris
  • Clean showerhead and faucet aerators
  • Vacuum vents and registers
  • Clean out your refrigerator
  • Clean the garbage disposal 
  • Clean your dishwasher
  • Clean your range hood filter

Seasonal Home Maintenance Repairs for Spring

  • Have your septic tank inspected and pumped, if necessary

Seasonal Home Maintenance Chores for Summer

Now that the heat is just starting to take effect and more AC’s are being turned on, take care of more stuff in the cool indoors. Over the summer, plan to:

  • Clean your dryer vent and washing machine hoses
  • Oil your garage door(s)
  • Check for leaks in the kitchen and bathrooms (repair leaking faucets, showerheads and running toilets as needed)
  • Vacuum refrigerator condenser coils and clean drip trays
  • Inspect tile grout in your bathrooms (seal as needed)
  • Prune trees and shrubs
  • Keep your lawn well kept
